What works, for whom, how and under what circumstances? This session will review changing practices of generation, interpretation and use of policy-relevant evidence and theory. This will include a discussion of issues currently affecting the practice of policy evaluation and beyond, including increasing methodological sophistication, patchy use of evaluation findings, and challenges to the professionalization of evaluation, among others.

Building on the success of its previous three Conferences, and as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations, the GEF Independent Evaluation Office is gathering distinguished speakers and participants for two and a half days (March 5-7, 2024) of intensive discussions on evaluation in the context of environment and development.
This fourth IEO-EED Conference will focus on how evaluation practice has increasingly integrated the cross-pollination of environmental, socioeconomic, and policy domains. The African Evaluation Association (AfrEA), in partnership with the Rwanda Monitoring and Evaluation Organization (RMEO), is pleased to invite submissions for the 11th AfrEA International Conference.
With a theme titled “Technology and Innovation in Evaluation Practice in Africa: The Last Nail on the Coffin of Participatory Approaches? “The 11th AfrEA conference aims to:
To strengthen VOPEs to work with national Governments to advance the evaluation agenda, especially on policy formulation based on evidence.
To provide space for sharing experiences to enhance national evaluation capacities
To showcase the use of evaluative evidence in Africa
To contribute to the development of Young and Emerging evaluators
In addition, the 2024 conference goal is to raise awareness, build capacity, and strengthen partnerships between AfrEA, Voluntary Organisations for Professional Evaluations (VOPEs), evaluation stakeholders, and national Governments on the institutionalisation of evaluation in Africa.

The Fisher Family Summer Fellows Program on Democracy and Development is a training program hosted annually by Stanford University's Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law (CDDRL) at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI). Launched in 2005 and formerly known as the Draper Hills Summer Fellows Program, the program brings together a group of approximately 28-30 mid-career practitioners from transitioning countries who are working to advance democratic practices and economic and legal reform in contexts where freedom, human development, and good governance are fragile or at risk.
The Fisher Family Summer Fellows Program provides an intensive 3-week on-campus forum for civil society leaders to exchange experiences and receive academic and policy training to enrich their knowledge and advance their work.

In this session, participants will explore the overarching question: How will you and your students know what they know and can do due to your course? Monitoring and measuring learning can also motivate learners, as can the use of transparent approaches and in-class feedback. Faculty from different disciplines and course types will share measures (e.g., assignments, exams, quizzes, ungraded activities) they have found beneficial in helping them (and their students) understand how well learning outcomes have been met in the course.
